SUMMARY

Chronic pelvic pain can affect every part of daily life, including sex. This study followed men with long-standing pelvic pain and looked at a two-part program: hands-on work to release tight, painful pelvic muscles (trigger point release) and structured relaxation training to retrain the body’s stress response. Together, these methods aimed to quiet the muscles and calm the nervous system.

Here’s the thing: many men with pelvic pain also report sexual symptoms like pain with ejaculation, low libido, trouble getting or keeping an erection, or difficulty ejaculating. In this group, most had at least one of these problems before treatment. After doing the combined program, a large share reported feeling clearly better overall, with less pelvic pain and meaningful improvement in sexual symptoms.

What this really means is that pelvic pain and sexual function are closely connected. Tense, tender pelvic muscles can refer pain and disrupt normal sexual response, while ongoing stress can keep those muscles braced. By releasing trigger points and practicing targeted relaxation, the body can “unlearn” that constant guarding pattern—often lowering pain and making sex more comfortable.

If you’re dealing with pelvic pain and sexual symptoms, a plan that addresses both sides—the muscles and the stress system—may help. Gentle, guided physical techniques plus daily relaxation practice can reduce flares, improve comfort, and support a healthier sexual response over time. Talk with a clinician familiar with pelvic-floor care to see whether this combined approach is a fit for you.
