Safety and effectiveness of an internal pelvic myofascial trigger point wand for urologic chronic pelvic pain syndrome
SUMMARY
This peer-reviewed study from Stanford University provides strong scientific validation for the internal trigger point wand as a breakthrough treatment for chronic pelvic pain syndrome. Published in the prestigious Clinical Journal of Pain, the research followed 157 patients with urologic chronic pelvic pain who had not found relief through conventional treatments.
The wand represents an innovative medical device specifically designed to address a key problem: pelvic muscle tenderness and trigger points that occur in most chronic pelvic pain patients. The curved design serves as an "extended finger" allowing patients to reach and treat painful internal trigger points that would otherwise be inaccessible. Critically, the integrated algometer (pressure monitor) guides users to apply appropriate therapeutic pressure while preventing potential injury. The results demonstrate exceptional effectiveness and safety. Of the 113 patients who completed the 6-month study, an overwhelming 95.5% reported the wand was either very or moderately effective in alleviating their pain. Pain sensitivity scores showed statistically significant improvement, dropping from a median of 7.5 to 4 on a 10-point scale - nearly a 50% reduction. This improvement is particularly meaningful given these were refractory patients who had already tried other treatments without success.
Safety data was equally impressive: zero serious adverse events occurred throughout the entire study. The 44 patients who withdrew did so for reasons unrelated to safety concerns, further confirming the wand's excellent safety profile. The treatment protocol involves using the wand several times weekly at home after receiving proper education and careful supervision from healthcare providers.
The study concludes that this multimodal protocol using an internal pelvic therapeutic wand represents a safe, viable treatment option for select refractory patients with pelvic pain. This gives hope to the many sufferers who have exhausted other treatment options, offering them a scientifically validated tool they can use independently to manage their chronic pain condition effectively and safely.
